Furacão Beryl sobe para categoria 5 e se torna 'potencialmente catastrófico'


O furacão Beryl foi elevado à categoria 5 na noite de segunda-feira (1º/6). O fenômeno é descrito como "potencialmente catastrófico" e provocou fortes chuvas e ventos devastadores depois de passar por várias ilhas no sudeste do Caribe.

Em Bridgetown, capital de Barbados, os carros faziam fila nos postos de gasolina, enquanto os supermercados e mercearias estavam lotados de pessoas que compravam alimentos, água e outros suprimentos.

Na tarde de segunda, as autoridades de Barbados relataram estragos causados por fortes ventos e chuvas torrenciais, mas sem o registro de feridos. As ilhas Santa Lúcia, São Vicente e Granadinas, Granada estão em alerta pelo furacão, enquanto Martinica, Dominica e Trinidad monitora o risco de uma tempestade tropical.

A previsão de especialistas indica que o furacão Beryl continuará a trajetória nesta terça-feira (2/7) no estado mexicano de Quintana Roo, onde estão localizados os balneários de Cancún e Riviera Maya. A Proteção Civil, a Secretaria da Defesa e a Marinha do México estão acompanhando o fenômeno.

Há dez dias, o México sofreu o impacto de outro fenômeno climático: a tempestade tropical Alberto deixou pelo menos cinco mortos ao passar pelo norte do país.
